2 Terrorists Killed in Kulgam, Kashmir
SRINAGAR, Jan 10: Two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Hassanpora area of Kulgam district of South Kashmir, police said on Monday.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Hassanpora village of Kulgam district following information about the presence of militants there, a police spokesperson said.
He said the search operation turned into an encounter after militants opened fire on the government forces.
Two militants were killed in the exchange of fire with the government forces, the spokesperson said, adding that incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition, were recovered from the scene of the encounter.
Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar identified one of the slain militants as Imad Wani and said that he was a “categorized” militant of Al- Badr.
A senior police officer while confirming to GNS said that two local militants of Al-Badr were killed in a gunfight.
Earlier on evening of Sunday, a joint team of Police, army’s 1RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on the input generated by JK Police in the area.
As the joint team of forces intensified searches towards the target spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces triggering off a gunfight.
According to Kashmir News Service (KNS), a police spokesperson said that based on a specific input generated by Kulgam Police regarding the presence of militants in Hasanpora village, a joint cordon and search operation was launched yesterday evening by Police and 1stRR in the area.
The statement reads that during the search operation, as the joint search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, which was retaliated effectively, leading to an encounter.
“In the ensuing encounter, two militants of Al-Badr outfit were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of the encounter. They have been identified as Imad Muzaffar Wani resident of Arigam Pulwama and Abdul Rashid Thoker resident of Hassanpora,” it reads.
It reads that as per police records, slain were part of groups involved in several militant crime cases including attacks on security forces and civilian atrocities. “Besides, Imad Wani was involved in an attack on police personnel Mushtaq Ahmad Wagay of Pulwama on December 19, 2021, in which the cop got seriously injured. Abdul Rashid Thoker, before joining militant ranks was working as militant associate and was also involved in attack on a civilian at Chitragam in which the civilian got injured,” it reads.
It reads that a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in PS Bijbehara and investigation has been initiated.
