2 MILITANTS KILLED IN SHOPIAN
SHOPIAN, Jan 22: Two militants were killed in a gunfight with government forces in Kilbal area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district, officials said on Saturday.
A senior police officer said that two unidentified militants have been killed, whose identification is being ascertained while as search operation is on in the area, according to news agency KNO.
Earlier, an official said that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
He said that as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering a gunfight.
While the identity of the slain was not immediately known, a police spokesman said both were affiliated with The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow affiliate of the LeT as per police.

The encounter broke out this afternoon shortly after security forces cordoned the area following a tip off about the presence of the militants there.
