INS Nilgiri Undergoes Sea-trials
India’s most Advanced Stealth Frigate: INS Nilgiri Spotted undergoing Sea trails
The first of the Project 17A (Alpha) stealth frigates, INS Nilgiri – the most modern frigate of the Indian Navy undergoing sea-trials at MDL, Mumbai. The Nilgiri class is a design derivative of the indigenous Shivalik class stealth frigates.
The ship is already outfitted with MF-STAR radar, Terma Scanter radar and weapon systems like RBU-6000 ASW systems, it will come equipped with Shtil-1 and Barak-8 Long-range SAM system, DRDO Shakti electronic warfare (EW) system and BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles.
Powered by a sophisticated combined diesel and gas (CODAG) propulsion system, these formidable warships can achieve speeds of up to 28 knots, effectively serving as the first line of defence for the Indian Navy Carrier Battle Groups (CBG).
