Indian Navy Ship in Srilanka for diving training
INS Nireekshak, a diving support vessel (DSV) of the Indian Navy, has reached the port of Trincomalee in Sri Lanka to participate in a training exercise. The vessel will facilitate Mixed Gas Diving training for the Sri Lanka Navy during the ten-day deployment.
In a statement, the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka said: “The ship was warmly welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in accordance with naval tradition. “After arrival, the Commanding Officer of the Indian Naval ship, Commander Mohammad Ikram called on Commander of Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral PDS Dias. They held cordial discussions on furthering training in diving during the ten day deployment.”
The statement added that the visit is aligned with the Indian Government’s capacity building effort as part of ‘Neighborhood First’ policy.
INS Nireekshak (A-15) features two six-men recompression chambers and one three-man diving bell. The ship, equipped with a Dynamic Positioning System (DPS), can be used as a submarine rescue vessel and for the training of saturation divers.In September 2019, INS Nireekshak visited Trincomalee port for a similar training activity for Sri Lanka Navy divers.
