INS Vikrant (IAC-1) is now equipped with Israel Elta MF-STAR radar
The MF-STAR digital AESA multi-function radar delivers high-quality situation pictures and weapon support to the warship.
The MF-STAR employs multi-beam and pulse Doppler techniques as-well-as robust ECCM techniques to extract fast, low RCS targets from complex clutter and jamming environments. The MF-STAR is a multi-function S-band. The radar will automatically establish tracks of high flying targets at ranges beyond 250km and at low flying targets, at ranges above of 25 km.
At medium range it will automatically track and classify threat and simultaneously, search the horizon for potential missile threats. In parallel, it supports multiple engagements by offensive and defensive weapons.
The INS Vikrant will also be equipped with long-range surface-to-air missile (LRSAM) ehich provide effective Air Defence (AD) to the aircraft carrier. The LRSAM is jointly developed by Israel IAI and the DRDO, that has a range of 70+km and offers broad range of Defence against in incoming threats.
INS Vikrant will also be getting DRDO developed Vertical Launch Short Range Surface to Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) that will supplement the LRSAM system for intercepting aerial threats to the aircraft carrier. VL-SRSAM has a range of 40km.
The DRDO is also working on an extended LRSAM-ER variant for the Indian Navy which will feature an additional booster stage that will enable it to take down aerial targets at range of 150+ KM providing holistic Air Defence environment to the most strategic asset of the nation.
