Over 7,000 Ukrainian Interceptor Drones Sought by U.A.E., Qatar, Kuwait

Countries in the Persian Gulf have submitted requests to purchase more than 7,000 Ukrainian interceptor drones from Ukrainian company TAF Industries.

Oleksandr Yakovenko, founder of TAF Industries, told the Financial Times that the United Arab Emirates requested 5,000 interceptor drones, while Qatar submitted a request for 2,000 systems. Kuwait has also expressed interest in acquiring the drones.

Yakovenko said the countries are seeking to understand how the systems could be integrated into their broader air defense networks.

“They want to understand how to integrate our drones into the broader defense system. Now every country understands that it needs interception systems, because it is not enough to rely only on something like Patriot,” Yakovenko said.

He added that training drone operators remains a major challenge for countries aiming to deploy interceptor systems quickly, noting that preparing personnel to operate such drones can take several months.

In February, TAF Industries announced plans to begin mass production of a new interceptor drone called OCTOPUS. The unmanned system was developed by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense’s technical team to counter aerial threats, including Shahed-type attack drones.

Production of the OCTOPUS drone is expected to involve several Ukrainian companies, with additional manufacturing planned in the United Kingdom.
