Former Maharashtra DG Jaiswal is new CISF chief
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) got a new chief in Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, who took over as the 28th director general of the force today. Prior to CISF, Jaiswal was serving as Director General of Police of Maharashtra.
During his earlier stint, Jaiswal had served at the Special Protection Group, an elite force that protects the prime minister. He had also served as Joint Secretary and Addl. Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat.
Jaiswal joins the force at a time, when the government is trying to start operations at a lot of smaller airports across the country under a regional connectivity scheme called Ude Desh ke Aam Nagrik (UDAN). In an attempt to keep costs of operations at these airports low, the government has decided to let state police forces guard these airports.
CISF, which guards all the key airports in the country, is being gradually being brought at all other airports and the government discussing plans to fund the security at all these airports.
