JAISH MILITANT, COP KILLED; 3 JAWANS AMONG 5 INJURED IN KULGAM

SRINAGAR, Jan 12: A Jaish-e-Mohammad militant and a policeman were killed and five people, including three soldiers, injured in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday, police said.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Pariwan area of the district Kulgam in South Kashmir following information about the presence of militants there, officials said.

They said the search operation turned into an encounter after militants opened fire towards the position of security forces.Inspector general of police (Kashmir zone) Vijay Kumar said one policeman and one Jaish-e-Mohammad militant were killed in the encounter, a PTI report said.

“One police personnel Sg Ct Rohit Chib attained martyrdom, three Army soldiers got injured. Two civilians also got minor injuries. One terrorist of terror outfit JeM killed.

Wednesday evening.Reports reaching a local news agency, Global News Service (GNS), said that a joint team of police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Pariwan.As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.A senior police officer also confirmed to GNS about exchange of firing between militants and government forces.
