India’s balancing act: Ammo exports to Czech Republic while addressing Ukraine concerns
India’s ambitions to become a major player in the global defence export market received a significant boost in 2023 with a landmark deal with the Czech Republic. Munitions India Limited (MIL), a state-owned defence enterprise, secured a contract to supply 80,000 units of 120mm High Explosive (HE) mortar shells and 50,000 units of 125mm HE tank ammunition to the Czech Armed Forces. This substantial order underscores India’s growing capabilities in indigenous defence production and its potential to be a reliable supplier on the international stage.
The Czech Republic’s decision to partner with India signifies a number of positive developments. Firstly, it highlights the increasing competitiveness of Indian defence equipment.
