In a scathing letter dated 27 January 2021 addressed to India Today group chairman and editor in chief, the press secretary to the President of India, Ajay Kumar Singh, brought up the “irresponsible” and “juvenile” behaviour of a section of journalists over the Subhash Chandra Bose portrait controversy.
On 25 January, President Ram Nath Kovind was accused on social media of unveiling a portrait of Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee instead of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. This was supported by TMC MP Mahua Moitra and some journalists like Rajdeep. The letter accused the journalist of not doing a basic fact check before posting.
The letter ended with a stern warning to the media group.
Reportedly Rajdeep Sardesai has been taken off air for 2 weeks and his monthly salary held off as disciplinary action.
